Dinner and a Movie

This project is based off of the film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1922. The composition is meant to be a table set for three. The plate in the cast iron skillet represents Arlette James, who has symbols of domesticity surrounding her place setting such as a needle and thread, the skillet, and clothespins. The setting on the right is for Henry, the son, with elements representing both Arlette and Wilfred. The cup at his setting is spilled and the napkin is absorbing the drink, representing the consequences of holding too much in after Arlette’s murder. The place set for Wilfred is the most neat setting, but the cup at his place is almost spilling over as well. He has three corn kernels, painted gold, on his plate that represents the prize he was chasing that cost him everything in the end. The needle from Arlette’s setting is driving a wedge between Wilfred and Henry.
